How we handle your information

Your Privacy

WHAT WE COLLECT AND WHY

The New Jersey Area of Cocaine Anonymous (CANJ) runs canj.org to carry the message to the addict who still suffers. We take your privacy, and our tradition of anonymity, seriously. This page explains what information the site collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Information You Give Us

We only collect information that you choose to send us through the forms on this site:

  • Text updates sign-up (on every page): your name and mobile phone number.
  • Contact forms (Contact Us and H&I pages): your first name, email address, phone number and message.
  • H&I training form: your name, phone number and email address, so the H&I Committee can record that you completed the training.

We do not ask for, and please do not send us, any other personal details. We never sell, rent or share your information with outside organizations.

How We Use It

We use what you send us only for the purpose you sent it: to reply to your message, to send occasional text updates about meetings and events to people who have asked for them, and to keep the H&I Committee’s record of who has completed training. Phone numbers given for text updates are used only to send those updates. If you would like to stop receiving them, or want your information removed, reply to any message we send or let us know through the Contact Us page and we will remove you promptly.

Where It Is Kept and Who Can See It

Form submissions are stored in the password-protected administration area of this website and in the Area’s committee email accounts. Access is limited to the Webservant and the trusted servants responsible for the committee concerned (for example, the H&I Committee for training forms). Our website is hosted on a secure server and every page is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.

Cookies

This website does not set any cookies of its own for visitors. Two Google services we rely on may set cookies belonging to Google:

  • Spam protection. Our forms use Google reCAPTCHA to keep out automated spam. Because the text-updates form appears on every page, Google may set its reCAPTCHA cookie on any page you visit.
  • Events calendar. The Events page shows an embedded Google Calendar, which may set a Google cookie when that page loads.

We count visits using Jetpack Stats, which works without cookies and does not identify you. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, your visit is not counted at all.

To opt out of Google’s cookies, you can block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings, or block cookies for google.com specifically. Doing so will not stop you from reading anything on this site, although the forms may not work with cookies fully blocked.

Links to Other Services

Links to online meetings (Zoom), map directions to meeting locations, and our Facebook group take you to outside services that have their own privacy practices. In the spirit of Tradition Six, C.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; these links are provided only as a convenience to our members.

Anonymity

Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions. We never publish the name, photograph or other identifying information of any member without that member’s written permission.
